Passenger seat.

In a mostly reactive performance, carries pretty much all the movie's ideas about nature v. nurture, class, relationships, etc etc.

An extreme example of one costar blowing another off the screen, but people are usually pretty quick to stand up for the silent partner, which didn't happen here. (For her performance, MM joined the illustrious ranks of the People Who Received My Supporting Performance Vote and Nobody Else's In That Year's Indiewire Poll All-Stars, alongside such luminaries as Chris Evans in Sunshine [watch it again].)

I thought Monaghan was fantastic in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and totally solid here, but with the exception of her big scene outside Freeman's house at the end, she's just not given that much to do. It's not just that the performance is reactive—it's that the movie frequently kinda forgets about her altogether, even when she's onscreen. Plus—and this goes for Affleck as well—I never really believed she'd be in this particular line of work; both roles needed flintier actors imo.

This clip is all I've seen of this film (so it's not really fair to comment), but the two in the front seat felt like they were in the movie-of-the-week version of the story being portrayed in the backseat.

And yet somehow I find Ryan mesmerizing and you tiresome. Ah, the mysteries of art!

Not skandie-related, but very spirited debate on the Polanski arrest, Mike and Victor. I'm impressed that you guys can carry on in-depth through Twitter's philosophically-unfriendly 140 character monologue-only setup.

I really enjoyed this performance the first time I saw it. However, after I seeing Ryan on The Wire and The Office, I found her performance here even more impressive.

This would probably have been somewhere on my own decade list.
