HISTORY:

Scorsese has made the Director list eight times, with five of the eight landed him in the top five. See the "nominees" post below for those; the other three are The Aviator (#8, 2004), Shutter Island (#6, 2010), and Hugo (#12, 2011). Only for Bringing Out the Dead was he ignored entirely.

This is the second time Williams has just missed winning Supporting Actress, as she previously finished 2nd in 2005 for Brokeback Mountain. It's her seventh appearance overall:

2s. Brokeback Mountain (2005)
2s. Manchester By The Sea (2016)
4. Wendy and Lucy (2008)
7. Meek's Cutoff (2011)
9. Blue Valentine (2010)
9. Take This Waltz (2012)
14s. Shutter Island (2010)

Driver placed 17th in Supporting last year for While We're Young (and just like that he's tied with Minnie Driver, with two top 20 appearances each)Braga and Ehrenreich are new.

Ade's screenplay for Everyone Else (2010) placed 6th.

Scorsese would also have been eligible at least for Shine a Light and Public Speaking, but neither of them received votes for Best Director. I don't know if any of his other documentaries were eligible.

Thanks, Encyclopedia Gromit! I think we all understood that I was excluding the documentaries that almost nobody saw, Encyclopedia Gromit!

Why crowd your bookshelf with 26 bulky volumes of the Encyclopaedia Gromit, when you can now own it on four easy-to-store CD-ROMs?
