HISTORY:

Jenkins didn't place for Medicine for Melancholy.

Bening had never previously made the top ten, much less the top five. She placed 16th for American Beauty (1999), 14th for Being Julia (2004), and 14th again for The Kids Are All Right (2010). Farrell had previously landed at #13 for In Bruges (2008). García placed 17th two years ago for Gloria. Hedges is new.

Stillman landed in exactly the same Screenplay spot for Damsels in Distress (2012). His screenplay for The Last Days of Disco (1998) placed 8th.

Once it became clear that CAMERAPERSON was in the Top 5, I didn't care whether it placed any higher (and I was confident it wouldn't). The AVB seems to have -- "resistance" is too strong; not a lot of documentary hound (maybe). What was the last doc to get "nominated"? It wouldn't surprise me if GRIZZLY MAN (2005) was the last.

And the points gap between Bening and Beckinsale, while disappointing, means Ryan is off the hook.

It was. Exit Through the Gift Shop and The Act of Killing had come closest since, at #7.
