Skandies Decade Bonus: The Rest of the Performances

Minus the top three, of course, which have yet to be unveiled at this writing (though the only remaining suspense is what order they'll finish in, which is why I'm going ahead and putting this up now). In order to inhibit strategic voting when people are invited to revise their ballots at year's end, I'm still not including point totals, but will list the performances by the number of votes they received. Bear in mind that this says not that much about how they finished—4 votes might be as few as 20 points, whereas two votes could be as many as 60.

Nice to see Jeff Daniels and Maggie Gyllenhaal get noticed for The Squid... and Secretary. So well-deserved.

Number of votes for AnnaSophia Robb: 1

Number of votes for Anne Hathaway: 0

There's something not quite right about that.

RF, I see we've come to a parting of the ways after a nice run of solidarity on Punch-Drunk Love and Me and You and Everyone We Know.

Anne Hathaway seems like a lovely girl IRL and is in possession of a fawn-like prettiness, but I find her remarkably weak as an actress -- especially in light of the praise heaped upon her by the press.

About the best compliment I can give her is that she somehow didn't ruin Rachel Getting Married for me. And that's actually saying a lot, considering my opinion of her acting chops.

Now that results are in, can I get a vote for Damian Lewis in KEANE as Most Overlooked of the decade? (Anne Hathaway is also on that list imo.)

My vote fer overlooked perf (and number 18 on the list I'm submitting to my own Dork Caucus at the end of the month) is Ed Norton's bizarro turn in DOWN IN THE VALLEY (which also makes an appearance on the best film list - we do 50 so it's falling nicely in the 40s).

Did no one care for Tom Wilkinson in In The Bedroom? Or were his chances torpedoed by the fact that that problematic film's reputation has diminished over the years, and wasn't necessarily sky-high to begin with? Because I think he's flat-out incredible in it.

Also surprised to see that no one shouted out: Anthony LaPaglia in Lantana; Charlotte Rampling in Under The Sand; Brian Cox in L.I.E.; Clarkson or Bettany in Dogville. All of these would have been on or near my list.

Wilkinson placed 4th in the 2001 Best Actor race (and LaPaglia a distant 17th), so his performance was certainly admired. But evidently nobody thought it was one of the decade's ten best. Likewise, Rampling finished 3rd that year. But in both cases only that year's winner—Billy Bob Thornton and Naomi Watts, respectively—wound up placing. Not really surprising.

Bettany finished 5th in Supporting for Dogville, and Clarkson 12th in Supporting Actress. Cox was 12th in Supporting for L.I.E.. All liked, none passionately loved.
