Picture: All Is Lost (99/14)

Actress: Olga Kurylenko, To the Wonder (70/4)
Actor: Mads Mikkelsen, The Hunt (80/9)
S. Actor: Matthew Goode, Stoker (55/6)
S. Actress: Rooney Mara, Side Effects (62/6)
Screenplay: J.C. Chandor, All Is Lost (78/10)
Scene: Train platform fight, The Grandmaster (62/7)
HISTORY:
This is Kechiche's first appearance in Best Director.
Mara gets her third nod in the last four years, and her highest placement yet; she finished at #20 in Supporting for The Social Network (2010) and at #15 in the lead category for The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (2011). All of the other actors are new—which surprises me, in Mikkelsen's case, but I guess the only likely contenders were Casino Royale and Valhalla Rising.
Chandor's screenplay for Margin Call just squeaked in at #20 two years ago.

Sad to see this screenplay so low, but with the picture showing this low I guess I'm happy it was recognized at all. I think the script in particular suffers from the fallacy many people commit of conflating dialogue with screenplay. This movie is so well-written buds.
