HISTORY:
Get Out is Peele's feature debut.
Robbie placed 9th in Supporting for The Wolf of Wall Street (2013). Everyone else is new—somewhat remarkably, in the case of longtime stars Gere and Davis. (Also, it's not clear to me why Robbins landed in the lead category for Marjorie Prime while Davis wound up in Supporting. Tricky film in that respect, as the focus keeps shifting, but surely those two should be considered equals.)
This is actually Aronofsky's first time making the Screenplay list, though he placed in Director for both Requiem for a Dream and The Fountain. (And Black Swan, of course, but he didn't write that.)

Expected BRAWL to go a little higher; I overestimated the CELL BLOCK bloc.
Same here. The swamis are a bit off this year.
I hope this portends a strong showing for A QUIET PASSION, because that's a good movie and I think even I underrated it.

Speaking of underperforming PHANTOM THREAD scenes, this is the one I thought would make top 5. I gave it 8 pts but assumed I would have more than five other voters with me. Hope the film itself fares better.
As for BRAWL, perhaps a lot of people are like me -- I liked it a lot but not quite top 10. For many of us maybe it fell in that 11-20 range of films this year so we couldn't give it points. (Also sorry, BEATRIZ AT DINNER, IT COMES AT NIGHT, LAST JEDI, etc.)
Wonder if the reason for the mushroom omelette scene being so "low" is an effect of several scenes in PHANTOM THREAD being worthy of nomination? The breakfast order, the in-house fashion show, the dress retrieval, the New Year's Eve party, the reconstruction of the wedding dress, etc... (I know films can garner votes for several scenes on a single ballot, but maybe people tried to limit themselves to one or two scenes per movie?)
That's exactly the issue with Phantom Thread. I struggled with several scenes (you forgot Alma's surprise dinner) before settling on the final one. PTA used to know how to write himself one big Skandie scene. Now he just writes entire great movies.
Ah, yes, how did I miss that one? Yet another excellent scene. "Right now I'm just admiring my own gallantry for eating it the way you've prepared it."

Appropriately, those backing A QUIET PASSION aren't too vocal about it. Who are this film's champions? (Not me.)
