Phew ... I actually took your warning the other way, fearing that my screams of agony might be a rerun of those from yesterday, prompted by TIME OUT following Recoing in barely making it into the Top 20.

I'd hate to have to commit suicide again.

I know how you feel, Victor. I gave this film 17 pts as my #2 of the decade and it only squeaks into #20. I'm terrified to think what happens if I only give it 15 pts.

Guys, guys. You're failing to recognize what an amazing accomplishment even #20 is in this case. Think about how many films were made over the last ten years. At least 5000 of some note, I'd say. We're talking about like the 99.9th percentile here. And then individual performances—good gravy imo.

Hurrah! That *is* an amazing accomplishment to crack the top 20. Now I've got an overwhelming urge to watch it again tonight.

This is going to take a long time.

Mike,

Of course you're right that top 20 of the decade is a great accomplishment, but each of us had a pet 2-3 films on our list that we love so much that we couldn't bear to see any of them fall below the top 10. It's clearly wishful thinking, but I was holding out hope that my top 3 masterpieces all fared even better than this.

Still, it's true that scarcely another entity would ever deign to put Gerry in its top 20 of the aughts. We're a peculiar (but tasteful) bunch.

Possibly wouldn't make my top 1,000 of the aughts. Can't remember who summed it up as Dude, where's my Tarr?. I've never been able to get any further than that when thinking about it.

Ha! "Dude, Where's My Tarr?" I love it! Although maybe it's not that apropos, since I dislike Tarr even more than I dislike Gerry (even though Tarr is clearly more talented than Van Sant). But at least Tarr's films feel like actual movies. Gerry felt more like a joke.
