(Sorry for the incorrect aspect ratio, which I can't fix for some reason.)

HISTORY:

Cameraperson is Johnson's directorial debut.

All veterans among the actors today. I'm gonna come back to Huppert when she inevitably places for Elle. Hanks and Bridges get their sixth nods, Fanning her fourth.

HANKS (who's been on a roll the last few years, after a decade of dormancy):

6. Cast Away (2000)
6. Captain Phillips (2013)
13. Bridge of Spies (2015)
14. The Ladykillers (2004)
20. Saving Private Ryan (1998)

BRIDGES (who should clearly try to work with the Coen Brothers as much as possible):

1. The Big Lebowski (1998)
5. True Grit (2010)
7. The Door in the Floor (2004)
11s. The Contender (2000)
16. Crazy Heart (2009)

FANNING (doing pretty well for only being 18 years old; got her first nod at age 11):

3s. Super 8 (2011)
8s. Somewhere (2010)
17. Phoebe in Wonderland (2009)

Mills' screenplays for Thumbsucker (2005) and Beginners (2011) placed 19th and 10th, respectively.

Between the diner scene in Moonlight, the trip to Livingston from Certain Women, and the flashback in Manchester by the Sea, it looks like we've definitely abandoned the stand-alone "clip party" model for Best Scene.

And this is one of those years where 3 or 4 actors will get all the points, isn't it?

Would that it were so simple.

Oh no, the Diner talk from Moonlight is less than 20 minutes? Things are looking bleak for "Sand Job," my Moonlight scene of choice.

Really surprised Bridges was this low. Thought for sure he'd be top 5 if not top 3. Maybe he sacrificed some points to his castmates like Birmingham and Pine.
