HISTORY:

Joe finished 14th in 2004 for Blissfully Yours and 5th in 2005 for Tropical Malady.

Of the actors, only Farmiga, who finished 10th in the same category last year for The Departed, has previously placed. However, Judd was a Supporting Actress nominee in 1995 (the inaugural year, when there actually were nominees) for her work in both Heat and Smoke.

Haynes' screenplay for Far From Heaven (2002) finished in 5th. (He was also a Screenplay nominee in 1995 for Safe.) Moverman was one of the several folks who wrote Jesus' Son, which landed at #7 in 2000.

Are Skandies voters always such suckers for mediocre music montages? Or - having not seen I'm Not There, Regular Lovers, or Southland Tales - do these scenes function a hell of a lot better inside the film than as standalone pieces?

The saddest part is that the best musical number of the year failed to make the cut.

There is no excuse for that opening number not making the Skandie cut. I am going to find everyone who didn't vote for it and tear their wives in half.
