HISTORY:
Resnais placed 18th in 2007 for Private Fears in Public Places. (His only other eligible film in the Skandie era was Same Old Song, which few saw at the time.)
All of DiCaprio's appearances to date have been in Scorsese films: 9th for The Aviator (2004) and 2nd for The Departed (2006). Ruffalo won Best Actor ten years ago for You Can Count on Me and has two previous Supporting nods: 19th for 13 Going on 30 (2004) and 12th for Zodiac (2007). Fanning placed 17th in the lead category last year for the little-seen Phoebe in Wonderland. Steinfeld is obviously new.
Assayas finished at #6 in Screenplay last year for Summer Hours, and also at #6 in 1997 for Irma Vep. We did not recognize Franck for his screenplay for Amos Gitaï's One Day You'll Understand.

Big separation between #8 and #9 in the Actress race. And while likely not all of her votes where in the lead category, Steinfeld's performance becomes (for now) the most-acknowledged accomplishment in this year's countdown with 22 unique votes. How many voters participated in this year's survey?
Slammin' one-sheet. Might be the best one Mike's posted so far.
Steinfeld at #8? Competitive category this year. Let's not humiliate ourselves with a Portman Top 3 finish.
And while likely not all of her votes [were] in the lead category, Steinfeld's performance becomes (for now) the most-acknowledged accomplishment in this year's countdown with 22 unique votes.
Actually, Steinfeld received not a single vote in Supporting.

35. Josh Rothkopf forgot to check his AOL account and missed the deadline, Donna Bowman abstained, and I never heard from Matthew Butcher.
I feel like I'm in an alternate universe edition of American Idol and someone keeps hitting the refresh button on Wild Grass.
Thank you to the 12 voters who gave Elle Fanning her well-deserved votes. I sadly forgot her on my ballot. What a flawless, graceful performance. As a young actress with a lot of responsibility in her role, she far outshines Steinfeld's sturdy, but ultimately spelling bee-esque turn as Mattie.
Was she acting though? Wow, look at me, I can skate. Now I can play Rock Bank without looking into the camera, and other nonsense. Granted, she shined for a moment in the car before getting on the plane, but it seemed like her responsibility was to remain as low key as possible at all times to be a reflection of the director.
Didn't the pilot episode of Cop Rock deal with a robbery at Rock Bank?
Actually, Steinfeld received not a single vote in Supporting.
Good job, voters, not being mindless sheep.
Thank you to the 12 voters who gave Elle Fanning her well-deserved votes.
I'm one of those 12 -- and Holly, yes of course she was acting. Genuine emotion towards Dorff; I believed she was his daughter, and I believed her reserved affection, which was far less judgmental than it could have been. Low key doesn't mean non-acting. Often the opposite is true.
Bravo to you for being able to extract her performance of getting him to know her, and her caring for him, better than the movie's seemless immerssion of me in same experience.
I submitted Part II of the ballot, the ratings from 0.0 to 4.0, didn't I? I thought I did. (And allow me once again to complain about the philosophically bankrupt decision to disallow 0.5 ratings.)
But I'd only seen 40 films or so, not really enough for the main ballot ... much as it pains me to see Exit Through the Gift Shop languishing at #7 ....
