Skandies: #13

Picture: Computer Chess (101/11)
Director: Abbas Kiarostami, Like Someone in Love (111/11)
Actress: Jane Adams, All the Light in the Sky (83/7)
Actor: Tye Sheridan, Mud (83/10)
S. Actor: Nick Frost, The World's End (79/8)
S. Actress: Zoe Kazan, Some Girl(s) (67/4)
Screenplay: Dan Sallitt, The Unspeakable Act (95/10)
Scene: Talk show, The Act of Killing (63/5)

HISTORY:

Kiarostami previously placed 15th in 1998 for Taste of Cherry, 8th in 2000 for The Wind Will Carry Us, and 4th in 2011 for Certified Copy.

Adams gets her first nod since landing at #5 for Happiness (1998). Kazan—who I believe may have received significant points from every voter who saw the eminently skippable Some Girl(s)—placed 12th in Supporting for Me and Orson Welles (2009) and 10th in the lead category for The Exploding Girl (2010). Both men are new.

The Unspeakable Act is the first of Dan Sallitt's films to be Skandie-eligible. He is, I should note, himself a member of the August Voting Body, though as I expected, he opted not to vote for his own film in any category, whether out of modesty or just because he thought others did stronger work.

This is too low for Computer Chess, but hey, what'cha gonna do.

Good job, nine others recognizing Tye Sheridan's awesome work in The Muddiness.

Yeah I'm pleasantly surprised 9 others joined me in giving Sheridan points. That kid is good.

At the last minute I had to cut train station fight from my ballot -- I had too many scenes and that one missed the cut because when I saw it a second time the F/X didn't look so hot. But still, Wong.

Yes, there undoubtedly would have been a lack of objectivity on Sallitt voting for himself. Frickin Godard...

I think Tye Sheridan's even better in Joe.
