Skandies: #5

Picture: Personal Shopper (106/9)
Director: Luca Guadagnino, Call Me by Your Name (157/13)
Actress: Haley Lu Richardson, Columbus (164/12)
Actor: Vince Vaughn, Brawl in Cell Block 99 (210/16)
S. Actor: Armie Hammer, Call Me by Your Name (128/12)
S. Actress: Holly Hunter, The Big Sick (131/14)
Screenplay: S. Craig Zahler, Brawl in Cell Block 99 (158/13)
Scene: Gorilla theater, The Square (103/9)

[Just a snippet. The actual scene is excruciatingly long, by design.]

HISTORY:

First time for Guadagnino. He was a near-miss for I Am Love, finishing 23rd.

Hunter's most notable work predates the Skandies, but this is still her fourth career appearance (and by far her highest ranking). We previously enjoyed her in Living Out Loud (#12, 1998), Thirteen (#13s, 2003), and The Incredibles (#18, 2004). Hammer placed 15th and 20th in Supporting for The Social Network (2010) and J. Edgar (2011), respectively. Vaughn and Richardson are new.

Zahler's Bone Tomahawk screenplay finished 12th.

Surprised Haley Lu Richardson made it this high. I don't remember anything particularly impressive about her performance, but maybe I was just smokescreened by how much I didn't really like any other aspect of COLUMBUS.

Wow, what just happened in Best Actor? A jump of 67 points from #6 to #5?!

Not that uncommon. There's a 50-point jump from 4th to 3rd in Picture; an 80-point jump from 3rd to 2nd in Director; a 61-point jump from 4th to 3rd in Supporting Actor; etc.

On the other hand, the top three in one category is:

1. 268/22
2. 268/20
3. 265/20

Also we have a dead-on tie (i.e. not rounded or anything) for first in the average ratings this year. That's never happened before.

When I saw THE SQUARE, there were actual walkouts during that scene.
